Water Leak – New Floor!

We discovered a water leak a few weeks before our Italy trip. I think we had a very small (very slow) leak for a very long time. We ended up ripping out the old sub floor and flooring. I had originally done this project about 8 years prior. I guess we had a good run. When we returned I wanted the house back to normal so I jumped right in and got it done as quickly as I could. We found some engineered laminate at Home Depot on sale, it was a pretty close match to what we had previously.

Vapor barrier in, studs going down
Almost there

I added a few extra pieces where some heavy furniture will sit, probably over engineered it, but it didn’t take much time or material.

All done! Whew!

This project was hard on my knees and back but I recovered after a few days. When I was younger I would bounce back overnight. Thankfully the Mrs was able to help. She’s a trooper!

I thought I would mention we went with the wood sub floor again after getting a quote on a cement pour about 4″ thick. We were quoted 7K. (ouch) We ended up going wood sub floor and new flooring for about 1K. That was a no brainer.

Until next time!
