Just before we got back from our last trip we had the check engine light come on. Not what you want to see when you’re still an hour from home. All the fluids were good and the engine temp was normal so I figured it was something important but not critical. We kept going. I took the rig to our nearest O’Reilly auto parts store the next day and they were able to read the error codes with their scanning tool. It said I needed an ignition coil and one spark plug on cylinder number 5. (Just some misfiring)
I was able to access the repair from inside the RV after removing the engine cowling. Interesting stuff. As long as I was in there I am going to replace all of the plugs. The old original plugs are these iridium style spark plugs. They are supposed to last anywhere from 30,000 to 100,000 miles. Our RV has 35,000 miles on it. I opted for the old style plugs to replace and saved a few bucks.
I’ve got the original repair completed and started it up, the check engine light is now off. Now I’m going back in to swap out the remaining 9 spark plugs. I’ve been saving the work for mornings since it’s been beastly hot.
